English term or phrase: fall down a rabbit hole
"Did my mother really just say this, or have I actually fallen down a rabbit hole?"

Precisava de confirmar se isto é o mesmo que "or am I dreaming" ou se tem outro significado.

Obrigada! :)

Portuguese translation:será que estou a sonhar
Explanation:
Alice sonhava acordada, daí a minha sugestão.

"rabbit hole
A rabbit hole is the entrance to a rabbit's burrow or warren.

In Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Alice follows a mysterious white rabbit into a rabbit hole to enter 'Wonderland', an absurd and improbable world inhabited by many strange characters. This usage has helped make the phrase refer more generally to any portal into a different or strange world, such as:

The character Morpheus in the movie The Matrix uses this metaphor when he offers the character Neo the opportunity to enter "the real world".
In the film What the bleep do we know!?
The term is used in alternate reality games to describe the initial page or clue that brings the player into the fictional world of the game.
By extension, the term has also come to signify any event which triggers a completely unexpected, bizarre situation or paradigm."

Será que estou no País das Maravilhas...

Explanation:
It is a reference to Alice in the Wonderland - she falls down a rabbit whole - Alice is not dreaming when she falls down the rabbit whole, by the way.
So I guess he is saying like:

Será que estou no País das Maravilhas...
Será que estou com alucinações....

I suppose you could translate it more literally if you think your audience will get the reference.

tive um sonho/imaginei tudo

Explanation:
Acho que é esse mesmo o sentido :)

Por analogia com a história de Alice no país das maravilhas:

A aventura começa quando Alice escorrega por uma toca de coelho e depara com o País das Maravilhas - uma terra de sonho onde encontra muitas criaturas e personagens que a vão levar por esse mundo de fantasia.
