kjøpskvittering må forevises

Many ways of saying this - but this is one of the simplest.

I have neither the time nor the inclination to enter a slanging match with Björnar, whose skills I admire greatly, but in this case we seem to be tilting at windmills. I said at the outset that there are many ways of saying this, because there are umpteen ways of making a purchase. Kjøpskvittering (purchase receipt) is a tangible proof of what was putchased, at what time, the amount paid, the VAT amount, tne seller's ID, and (optional) the buyer's ID. The purpose of the 'proof of purchase', which under Norwegian consumer law is NOT mandatory in a warranty issue, is as often as not to prove that the item was bought, as in not stolen. Kjøpsbevis, on the other hand, is an intangible something that proves with some certainty that a purchase was made. Accounting laws specify clear requirements for 'kjøpskvittering', and specify no such thing for 'kjøpsbevis', as it's a non-entity.
At this time, I wish all you fascinated followers a Good Night.

agree Bjørnar Magnussen : The question is probably taken from a warranty context. I did not notice yesterday that it was classified as "manual". Your suggestion is thus probably better than mine. Let's end our "slanging match":)

I would suggest the more literal translation "kjøpsbevis" if the text does not say anything about what type of proof is required. A "proof" can be e.g. a number, a package slip et.c.
Example sentence:

Adobe godtar følgende som lovlig kjøpsbevis: Et direktebestillingsnummer fra Adobe

neutral Per Bergvall : Fact is, your suggestion is as good as mine. Almost.

Trouble is, we don't know what the "proof of purchase" is, neither can we be sure that it is issued by a shop. Let's say you collect 100 bottle caps, send them to the brewery and get a beer mug with their logo on. Then the bottle cap is a proof of purhase
