Industrieruß (englisch Carbon Black) ist gezielt als Industrie-Grundstoff hergestellter Ruß. Industrieruß ist zweckbedingt eine Modifikation des Kohlenstoffs mit hohem Oberfläche-zu-Volumen-Verhältnis und wird vor allem als Füllstoff und als Schwarzpigment verwendet.

1) das A/V-Verhältnis scheidet vermutlich aus, weil es die Einheit 1/m hat (1/mm, 1/µm) und die englische Bezeichnung SA/V wäre.

Thermal black
In the thermal process, which dates back to 1922, a chamber filled with checkered brickwork is heated to about 1300 °C by injecting a burning mixture of gas and air. When the required temperature has been reached, the flow of burning gas is stopped and the hydrocarbon feedstock (usually gas) is injected. Contact with the hot bricks causes the feedstock to crack, forming carbon black and hydrogen. This process is run cyclically using two chambers, one being heated while the other produces carbon black.

The C1 peak is assigned to pyrolytic carbon which is formed from hydrocarbons adsorbed on the carbon black surface. The increase of the pyrolytic carbon deposited with increasing pyrolysis pressure is easily explained since the concentration of the pyrolytic carbon forming hydrocarbons in the gas phase increases with increasing pressure.
