I know that REF stands for reference, all I need to know is if there's an abbreviation for the word in Arabic used in courts and official registers? if not, how can I translate it?

Arabic translation:رقم الملف / القضية
Explanation:
when translating legal related texts and documents, one should take care about choosing words. المرجع legally could mean the court or the judge or the administration like in: المرجع الذي اصدر القرار or even it could mean the book or where a doctrine or quotation has been taken like when using quotations from a jurisprudence book

مرجع وبعض لاأحيان مر.

Explanation:
The problem is if you use م alone you run into مسلسل وموضوع الخ, so the next best thing is to add the "ر".
