Ordinary Time comprises two periods: the first period begins on Epiphany Day (in the Anglican Communion and Methodist Church) or the day after the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord (in the Catholic Church) and ends on the day before Ash Wednesday; the second period begins on the Monday after Pentecost, the conclusion of the Easter season, and continues until the Saturday before the First Sunday of Advent.

Tijd door het jaar

Met de tijd door het jaar wordt in de Rooms-katholieke Kerk de periode in het kerkelijk jaar bedoeld, waarin geen bepaald mysterie van Christus wordt gevierd. Het betreft 'gewone' zondagen waarin de liturgische kleur groen is voorgeschreven.

Er zijn twee van deze perioden:
De eerste periode loopt vanaf het feest van het Doopsel van Christus tot aan het begin van de Veertigdagentijd Daarna volgt de Paaskring
De tweede loopt vanaf Pinksteren tot aan de Advent Daarna volgt de Kerstkring
