Dutch term

TBBS/TNO

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Automotive / Cars & Trucks
I am translating (English to Polish) a lease agreement for a motor vehicle (drawn up for the Netherlands by the Dutch). The vehicle should be fitted with TBBS/TNO approved and SCM certified equipment.

Do these abbreviations have any English equivalents or could anyone decipher them for me in English please?

Thank you everybody for your help, I really appreciate it!

I reckon the TBBS was wound up before the internet took off, so it's difficult to find anything online. And that's how we all work these days..
writeaway Mar 14, 2014:
No (official) translations seem to be around TBBS = Technisch Bureau voor Schadepreventie - (bureau/agency that deals with theft prevention)
TNO = Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek (deals with applied scientific research. Carries out research commissioned by companies and/or government).

thanks peter
agree writeaway : I was wrong (one of the few here capable of that). It IS about preventing theft or attempts to steal the car: http://www.mhautomobielen.nl/html/scm.html But loss is still a poor/not official translation./but for explan. purposes, it's about theft prev.

Thanks, but loss adjustment/loss prevention are commonly used terms

TBBS/TNO security system(s) (see explanation)

TBBS and TNO are companies specializing in security systems. These are links to their websites: http://www.tb-bs.nl/ and http://www.tb-bs.nl/.

I would therefore deduce that there is a requirement for the vehicle to be fitted with one or other of these security systems, presumably as antitheft devices.

TBBS and TNO

Funnily, the answer can be put together from the other answer and the reference given as follows.

From http://www.weetjewel.com/gestolen4_SCM.htm the following can be read:

This all means that these are NOT devices to be installed but parts of a circle of organizations that have the legal right to approve of security systems installed on vehicles. Thus they need not be translated, but the originals of the acronyms may be given as explanation in brackets - TBBS: Bureau voor Schadepreventie, SCM: Stichting Certificering Motorrijtuigbeveiliging, TNO: Toegepast Natuurwetenschappelijk Onderzoek - or in the required language (Polish, in this case). Unfortunately, Dutch acronyms have passed undetected under the radar of the otherwise brilliant Free Dictionary, so such stuff is difficult to find there.

it actually took quite of bit of time and research. I'm surprised because it's not like they are secretive organisations.
