Danish term or phrase: forskerkandidat
Context:
... at den størst mulige del af den støttede forskning skal foregå i udviklingslandene og udføres af landenes egne forskere/forskerkandidater.
Don Spade (X)
English translation:postgraduate research student
Explanation:
In this context "forsker" would usually be a person with a Ph.D. working in a university or research laboratory.
"Forskerkandidat" would then be a Ph.D. student, but "postgraduate research student" seems truer to the original text.

graduate researcher

Explanation:
My guess (and it is a guess) would be that this means someone who has completed a first degree or MSc and is working up to a research degree, eg, PhD candidates.

(Kandidat in Danish is someone who has a Master's degree, and the implication is that they are continuing in research after that.)

Sorry, haven't time to check today, but it may give you something to work on.

Explanation:
To my mind there's no need to add the word 'student' since by virtue of being a postgraduate, the person is already a student. Adding the word 'student' seems redundant.
