That's right, the hotel employee is showing how the equipment works (and verifying that it does in fact work) so that the customer can "prendre en main" the room.

Hi Steven, I like your "timely access", but here's a little more context to explain why I think there's a little more to it. Later on in the text it says:
Prendre en main sa salle de reunion avec la presentation des differents materiels et equipements et la verification de leur bon fonctionnement.
So not only to they have quick access, but they "take ownership" as it were of the room - they know how the equipment works, they can take charge.
