French term

Label

French to English Other Business/Commerce (general)
Context as follows:
"D'autres labels –comme celui d'un assureur en ligne contre les fraudes ou de l'appartenance à une association de cyber-commerçants - peuvent vous garantir la sécurité des paiements et le remboursement en cas de problème."

I've never come across "label" before in this context, does anyone have any idea what it could mean here?

certification mark, seal of approval, quality label

Like the "Label rouge" quality mark you see on French chickens (on supermarket shelves!).
Peer comment(s):

agree Isla MONTREUIL : certification mark is the most appropriate I think (e.g. VeriSign )

agree Tony M : Yes, and think of the classic British Standards 'kite mark', which is exactly the same idea... Or the famous 'Woolmark'... And the more recent 'CE mark'

label or designation

Other labels – such as that of online assurer against fraud or the ones announcing the belonging to an association of say cyber-traders - can assure you about the safety of the payments and the reimbursement in case of problems."

Nothing more nothing less.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Tony M : A bit of a 'faux ami' --- label in English is really étiquette in French, we don't usuaully use it in quite the same way when it comes to 'approval marks'

Label here denotes just a designation, which implies some quality marking. Nothing more nothing less as I already said.

Endorsement Label

To narrow the meaning.

3.24. An **endorsement label** divides models into two categories: those, which meet specified criteria, defined by the authority responsible for the labelling scheme, and those, which do not."

" In the USA Energy Star is used on a wide range of products as an **endorsement label** for energy efficiency.
