Do you mean American=from the USA and American=from the American continent? In that case, you may say "visa des États-Unis" and "visa d'un pays américain", or better (I think) "visa délivré par les États-Unis" and "visa délivré par un pays américain". If 'American' means from the American continent but not from the US you will say 'un autre pays américain'. Some historians use the adjective 'états-unien' but the majority of French speakers are not familiar with this word (though they would immediately guess the meaning). In a title or heading you could use 'américain (États-Unis)' and 'américain (autres)' |

simple query they are the same Explanation: American is generally used these days to refer to the US, although technically it refers to the whole continent (i.e. Including other countries, such as Canada). In this context, though, it would not make sense to have a visa for a whole continent, so they are obviously referring to a US visa. |
