What does ¡°gtrat¡± mean? And Stuttgart? Is Stuttgart a place name? I feel this sentence is difficult to understand(Bevor die Batteriez¨¹ndung von 1926 an die Stelle der Hochspannungsmagnetz¨¹ndun gtrat,).

the "g" in "gtrat" is wrong, it should be "trat". "an die Stelle von ... trat" can be translated as "replaced" (the "Batteriezündung" replaced the "Hochspannungsmagnetzündung", sorry, no idea what these are in English).
And yes, Stuttgart is a German city.

Sorry, the answer should not be \"was replaced by\" but \"replaced\"

high tension magneto ignition
I think there is a font problem here and would guess that "hochspannungsmagnetzuendung" is the word. "trat" is then the verb, as in "entered".
Thus I would suggest "high tension magneto ignition"

Yes - Sabine is right with \"replaced\". I should have taken more time to decode the sentence.
