The hypochondriac regions are the two superolateral regions of the abdomen which lie on either side of the epigastric region. The prefix “hypo” means below or under, while the word “chondriac” means cartilage, referring to the cartilage of the ribs. Therefore, the hypochondriac region is located beneath the ribcage.

neutral  philgoddard: We had the same answer last time. "Organs of the hypochondrium" would be OK, but not "hypochondriac".

  -> It could be but there are many references with "hypochondriac regions"

neutral  Joseph Tein: Ciao Luigi. We find OI = organi ipocondriaci in Acromed; at this point without further research I'm not sure of the best English translation. Have we had this term in a previous KudoZ question?
