Доброго времени суток.

Документальный фильм о текущей ситуации в Мьянме начинается следующими словами диктора:

"A people’s army. Made up of unlikely soldiers..."

Смысл "unlikely soldiers" раскрывается далее: люди эти изначально не солдаты и вообще солдатами становиться не собирались. Но в стране произошли определенные события (к власти пришли военные), и эти люди решили вступить в ряды Сопротивления.

Вот что они говорят:

"I’m going to fire a gun with a real bullet today. This is the first time."

"I wanted to run my own business.... I wanted to marry my soulmate, live there with her and make an honest living. That was my dream"

С одной стороны, их можно было бы, наверное, назвать солдатами поневоле. Но они вступили в ряды Сопротивления добровольно.

Поскольку перевод делается для озвучивания, длинные варианты не подойдут.

Explanation:
Ну тут либо действительно "поневоле", что определенным образом конфликтует с добровольческой природой данной армии, либо "по воле случая" - но вся конструкция займет больше времени при озвучке. Другие варианты на ум не приходят.
