Tech/Engineering - Agriculture / propagating material for sweet potatoes
Dutch term or phrase: intafelen
My context is a document about "propagating material for sweet potatoes".

"Na de voorbehandeling worden de behandelde knollen ingetafeld in een substraatbed. De ingetafelde knollen worden frequent bewaterd."

"net als de stekken uit voorbeeld 3, werden de slips opgegroeid uit XXX pootgoedknollen ingetafeld met een dichtheid van ongeveer 100 knollen per m²."

(The staggered horizontal spacing is from layer to neighboring layer, not within a given layer.)

pre-plant

Explanation:
I am specialized in agriculture and horticulture and actually grow sweet potatoes myself. Here the text must be referring to pre-planting sweet potato slips, because the actual planting is spaced at 60 cm between slips and 100 cm between rows (so not 100 slips per M2!). We produce sweet potato slips (tiny shoots) from a sweet potato on a bed of substrate or suspended in water. One SP will produce at least 10 slips. Some growers let the slips root in jars of water and plant them out in the field directly, I and others pre-plant them in pots or multiple slips in a container, to allow them to establish well before planting in the field or a final growing container. Each slip will produce a few kilos of SPs, so definitely not finally "planted" at 100 per M2>

Example sentence(s):
  • After rooting the slips they can be pre-planted in pots or in a conatianer, using a good substrate.

agree  Barend van Zadelhoff: I had a look at it as well. Talking sweet potatoes, this seems to be the right terminology. Also see for example: https://nwdistrict.ifas.ufl.edu/hort/tag/sweet-potatoes/
