Larry was the smilingest, sing-songiest, most upbeat publicist in the entire history of publicists. Then one day he snapped and began driving authors off the Maynard Gate Bridge. They had to fish Larry and a couple of very soggy authors out of the drink on more than one occasion. He end up attacking one young writer in mid-interview, live, on-air.( the author had turned to Larry and snapped his fingers for more water, as though beckoning a waiter.)

then having to pull them out of the water

Driving could be in a car, or chasing them, herding them like sheep, towards the end of the bridge (point of no return) - splash!

Fish out - hoick, pull out (as a fisherman does with the catch on the end of his hook)
