See below thanks re our responses and emotions, I understand this refers to being unable to act due to being in shock / amazed, they use anesthesia here but I don't think this works in English, pls see below thanks

Since this is from the Elizabeth Kubler-Ross change curve, I went to the English-language version of that:
Kubler-Ross Change Curve:
https://www.cleverism.com/understanding-kubler-ross-change-c...
It's obvious from the 5 stages listed there that this is Kubler-Ross's "5 stages of grief," expanded so as to also apply to surprising changes other than death. So, here are her 5 stages of grief: https://www.ekrfoundation.org/5-stages-of-grief/5-stages-gri...
I also did a search on the book where she set forth her "5 stages" theory: https://www.amazon.com/Death-Dying-Doctors-Nurses-Families/d...
In those sources I didn't see a set phrase that corresponded to "sidération anésthesie," but in these two stages--denial and anger or "déni-colère," as the FR text says--there were several references to shock/being shocked and to numbness/feeling numb.

Eliza Hall
: This could work, but I agree with Phil Goddard that we need something to capture the sense of "shock."
