Explanation:
This term is usually used to define one of two choices of study in the last two grades of secondary education in most Arab countries. You either choose the Scientific Stream, where stress is more on the sciences, or on the Literary Stream where stress is on the humanities in general. Most Universities wouldn't accept a Literary Stream high school holder to enlist in scientific departments like Medicine, Engineering, sciences, etc..

Humanities is a more general department. However, the Arabic is weird. It is normally called "Qism". However, I suppose in some Arab countries they may call it "far' ".

This is the well-known ثانوية عامة system common to most Arab countris with its two tracks, scientific and literary. A Google search on (secondary "literary track") will show you references to several Arab govermnental sites referring to this system.
