French term

Faux entraxe

French to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering UK English
This is about the centre-to-centre distance between beams in a pot (floor block) and beam floor. There is nothing false about it, it is simply a reduced-width span to accommodate a floor opening. I am provisionally translating this as "infill span", but that doesn't seem right. Does anybody know what it should really be called?

@ BD Perhaps the video

can help you, too.
Johannes Gleim Jun 14, 2019:
@ BD Yes, it was very difficult to find corresponding sources, esp. two French patents with English translations, matching IATE more or less. We all know that patent translations should be used with caution. But in most cases they can illuminate the subject, nevertheless. That's why I attributed CL3 only, hoping that native speakers can use this as base for own research and/or confirm (or disapprove) the term from knowledge in construction work. Unfortunately no specialist appeared.

Thanks Kim ... ... for drawing my attention to that citation in Johannes' answer. Though the English might be exécrable, the French definition above it has led me to realise that the simplest and best translation would probably be "non-standard centre-to-centre distance between beams", "reduced centre-to-centre distance between beams" or even "reduced gap between beams"!
Kim Metzger Jun 14, 2019:
Seriously? These formwork interjoists no solution to a problem commonly bring on sites which have between two beams smaller than that of the standard center distance, often called false spacing ....

Casing slab e.g. hollow tile, for forming spacing between girders of ribbed floor, has projection shoulder deviating support rebate after upper and lower surfaces are cut at balance line of vertical wall
:
These formwork interjoists no solution to a problem commonly bring on sites which have between two beams smaller than that of the standard center distance, often called false spacing, which no longer allows for rebates restraints on the sides of the standard interjoists to rest on the joists. The current situation requires companies to be shuttered this part of floors resulting in additional cost.

Rupteur thermique, entrevous isolant associe et plancher isolant obtenu
:

Thermal break, associated insulating case bay element, and insulating floor obtained therewith
:
Said inclined face (162) is provided on at least one breakable portion (16) formed in the thickness of the thermal break (10), making it possible to modify the profile of the lower face (12) of said thermal break in a simple and swift manner, such that it is suitable both for a normal case bay element arranged in a span with normal axial spacing and for a cut case bay element arranged in a span having a reduced axial spacing or false axial spacing.

Note from asker:
Thanks Johannes. Unfortunately, very poorly-translated citations and citations in US English are not much use. (Though they do serve to illustrate the fraud perpetrated on clients by some people who have the nerve to pose as translators.) However, the French original of one of your citations has, at least put me on the right track. See my note to Kim in the Discussion.
