I don't think being appointed adjunct professor is "linked" in the sense of causing him to become a member of the UNESCO Chair. If there's a causal connection, it would most likely be the other way around: because he's a member of the UNESCO Chair, he is obviously an authority on the matter, and therefore we appointed him adjunct professor.
Adjunct professors in the sciences (or engineering, law, business, and sometimes the arts) are not tenure-track or full-time professors. They're not academics at all. On the contrary, they're accomplished in their professional field, and because of that, they are given extremely part-time positions (e.g. one class a semester, which may be 3 classroom hours a week) teaching students who are specializing in that field. |
