Pelo que entendo, o original fala do método de pesagem (da carga), e especifica que ela deve ser "em ar". Há uma pequeníssima diferença entre a pesagem "em ar" e a pesagem "em vácuo"; a pesagem em vácuo daria um valor um popuquinho maior do que a pesagem em ar. A razão para isso é o famoso Princípio de Arquimedes: sendo o ar um fluido, o corpo nele imerso (a carga sendo pesada) recebe um minúsculo empuxo de baixo para cima, que concorre a reduzir a leitura obtida na balança. Em vácuo tal empuxo não existe e o peso registrado será maior.

Se a "carga" a ser pesada for uma pessoa de 70 kg, a diferença entre a pesagem em vácuo e aquela em ar será de somente uns 70 gramas, cerca de 0,1%, veja só.
