The GFCI is a device that interrupts an electric circuit whenever the ground-fault current exceeds some preset value. This value is lower than the one necessary for tripping overcurrent protection devices (fuses, breakers). Its purpose is to protect individuals against electric shock. Triggering current of GFCI's is usually very small (5 to 100 mA).
In this definition, the word 'current' refers to the ground-fault current that triggers the device, not to the circuit current that is interrupted.

Disyuntor por fuga a tierra
A ground fault circuit interrupter interrupts the circuit when there is a ground fault. An unintentional electric path between a source of current and a grounded surface is referred to as a "ground-fault." Ground faults occur when current is leaking somewhere, in effect, electricity is escaping to the ground. How it leaks is very important. If your body provides a path to the ground for this leakage, you could electrocuted. A gound fault is a "fuga" (leak) in Spanish. So the correct translation is not that the circuit interrupter is grounded (Interruptor de circuito con conexión a tierra), which it is not, but that the device interrupts the circuit when there is a leak (Disyuntor por fuga a tierra). The word "disyuntor" is more precise (and shorter) than "interruptor de circuito".

: Hola busque este concepto el de GFCI y tu respuesta aunque no es la elejida como la correcta, en efecto lo es, la que se eleigio en la discusion no es correcta, investigue el funcionamiento del device y como lo escribes esta bien dicho, felicidades.
