Irina Shevchenko: net sand - эффективная толщина/мощность песчаника. Суммарная/общая мощность - gross sand. В переводе данного термина слово "эффективная" обязательно, это означает, что в нее не включены мелкие прослои не песчаника. Собственно по-англ.это и написано.
