French term or phrase: mime par manipulation
This term appears along with a score but with no further explanation in a speech pathologist's report about a child. The child was administered a number of tests, one of which was a reading comprehension test focusing on syntax. Online I found a few explanations, in French, of what this test entails. The child is given sentences to read, e.g., "The truck parked next to the fire hydrant was passed by the blue car." In front of the child there are a number of pieces of paper with people and objects drawn on them, including ones with a truck, a fire hydrant and a blue car. If the child understood what she read, she would pick out those three drawings and arrange them in a way that matches the written scenario.

I have no idea what this test would be called in English, but I am quite sure that neither the words "miming" nor "manipulation" would be involved. Perhaps something with "mirroring" in it, but I wasn't able to find anything like that online.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

retell a story using pictures/picture sequencing
Explanation:
For your sake, I hope there's a shorter way of saying this!

Students will be able to retell a story with the help of a picture sequencing activity. ... Explain to the class that at the end of the lesson, they will have a chance to retell the story using pictures!

Thank you! I think your answer is the best one, although I modified it slightly for my translation. I ended up putting "re-enactment through picture sequencing".

Asker: Thanks. I believe that the syntax is being represented (re-enacted) in this test rather than reconstructed, but I appreciate your response.

Asker: Thanks. I think this is a good guess but the link you provided and everything I found online (including the Wikipedia entry) indicates that manipulatives are only used in mathematics. Thank you, though, for the suggestion.
