This is a cheerful narrative with some self-reflective sections when the narrator's discusses with the reader his role in life, comparing himself to a character playing a role in a novel. He has just been questioned by his girlfriend about the strength/basis of their relationship and he is feeling a bit awkward about what to say to her.

"Certo, è vero, spesso la realtà è inquinata dalla finzione e viceversa, ma non si può buttare lì un protagonista e pretendere che sia tutto chiaro, cristallino."

I am cannot see how "everything becomes crystal clear" would work here, which is how I understand the Italian term. Is there another phrase that would sound more consistent with the rest of the paragraph?
