1. + 2. Jeweils Schilddrüsenteilresektet (Thyreoidektomie beidseits)

German to English Medical Medical (general) Histological report
This comes from a patient report with the following histological findings:

"1. + 2. Jeweils Schilddrüsenteilresektet (Thyreoidektomie beidseits) mit einer vereinzelt kleinzystisch regressiv veränderten, mikro- bis makrofollikular aufgebauten nodösen Kolloidstruma einschließlich einzelner vorwiegend mikrofollikulärer Adenomknoten".

There is pretty obviously a mistake in the German (I am pretty sure that should be SchilddrüsenteilresektION), and I can understand most of it:

"1. + 2. (?) thyroid gland resection (bilateral thyroidectomy) colloid filled micro- to macrofollicular nodular goitre demonstrating regressive changes and occasional small cysts, including occasional, mostly microfollicular, adenoma nodules".

But I am having problems with "1. + 2 Jeweils". Does this mean the surgeon removed the complete thyroid in two steps (partial removal "Resektion", total removal " ...ektomie")?

Discussion

Anne Schulz May 12, 2017:
Yes, a mistake, but "Resektet" should read "Resektat", rather than "Resektion". Resektat means "the resected" (there is actually no corresponding word in English, AFAIK), and a "Teilresektat" is a part of the resected, or a resected part --> these are two thyroid tissue specimens from thyroidectomy.

Teilresektat

This report refers to a partially resected thyroid gland removed in bits or piecemeal - tissue is then sent for histology labeled or numbered 1,2 and so forth
