Lieblings-Anarchie

German to English Art/Literary Art, Arts & Crafts, Painting
"Lieblings-Anarchie:
Je konformer die Mode desto eigenwilliger und expressiver ihre Gegenbewegung."

This is from a text about colours in interior design. I'm not sure what to do about "Lieblings-Anarchie". I was thinking about simply translating it into French "Anarchie préférée" to add a certain sophistifaction (!) or some sort of pun (on "Anarchy in the UK"). But I'm open to any ideas apart from "favourite anarchy". The more creative the better.

Many thanks

Ian

(You'll be gutted to hear that Johnny Rotten's just walked off series three of "I'm A Celebrity - Get Me Out Of Here!")

Nothing - that's the problem, it's a maddeningly oblique text which is completely up in the air. I would understand "Lieblings-Anarchie" as "a welcome dose of anarchy".

Anything to clarify the meaning of the German?

Anarchy sweet anarchy

If this is a title?
How about something like "Anarchy sweet anarchy" as a play on "Home sweet home"
that would also (sort of) pick up on the interior design concept?

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "First of all, sincere thanks to everyone for the valuable help with the handful of questions for this job. I've already delivered the job, so I'll close them right away. All of these suggestions were great, but Rebecca's "Anarchy sweet anarchy" was simply perfect."

"most-favoured" anarchy

since most-favoured is a 'status'. only a suggestion....

Anarchy of choice

If this is supposed to be some sort of title or name I would go with something like 'anarchy of choice.' This would fit with the description given.
If you are talking with somebody advocating anarchy they will always tell you about things like freedom and choice being central themes of the movement, so you the way this recalls phrases like 'freedom of choice' as well as constructions like 'weapons of choice' could work very well here.

Colour your world with anarchy

There was once a song called "Colour My World", so my attempt is alluding to that, plus I feel it has some relevance to the interior colour theme.

Of course, anarchy is not a colour, but I'm being metaphorical. My suggestion may not make a huge amount of sense, but then, neither does the German! But I think (well hope!) that it's at least a catchy sort of title.

Anarchic harmony

or complementary anarchy.

They seem to reflect the text that follows and convey a fine air of pretentious serfistification.

HTH :-)

agree Joy Christensen : yes - the text that follows is even more difficult to fathom

Anarchy - always a la mode...

Some of the answers above would be fine if the text was referring to a particular artist or designer, but I think from what you're saying, that it means more just general trends, or types of "look".

Hence this suggestion, partly influenced by the words following the heading.

You could also leave out "anarchy" altogether and paraphrase to get similar connotations, eg:

"Rebellion as a fashion statement:..."
"Anarchy as a fashion statement:..."
Even, "The spirit of '68:..."
Peer comment(s):

neutral Joy Christensen : sounds intriguing - but is this about fashion? I'm also pondering whether "Mode" applies to interior design!

No, I know it's about interior design, but my suggestions fit this, too: consider - "they've decorated their house very fashionably"; likewise "a la mode" also (in English) implies up-to-date, trendy not just when referring to clothes :-)

Favourites feed anarchy

Magnolia back-lash, is the lines I'm thinking along ;-))

Conformity breeds anarchy
Anarchy loves mundanity
Long live blandness

Another take.

agree Dr Andrew Read : "conformity loves anarchy" is definitely going in the right direction, but "long live blandness" has more ironic marketing pzazz!

Pet Attitude

Pet Attitude
The more conservative a trend, the more anarchy follows.

Think I understand now. There's a range, a pendulum effect - and attitudes also change, but then again, I have my "pet attitudes" just like my pet peeves.

It doesn\'t have to do with interior design or fashion as such, but refers to the change inherent in trends. So everyone has anarchy in their lives (due to the ever-changing collective mood) - but we enjoy some portions of it more than others.

I\'m not sure (exactly) how \"pet attitude\" applies to the line that follows, but it\'s the same with the \"Lieblings-Anarchie\" and its jingle.

That\'s anarchy for you. In fact, what they want to say may be that it is all just a jingle. (Contrary to our \"real\" likes and dislikes, i.e. to our values in life.)

pet anarchy / the anarchy of design

Can't make heads or tails of the Lieblings-, though (isn't there any relation of the term to some other part of the text??).

another go at it: \"Anarchy - as you like it\"

Take your pick, Ian, other answers may be more to the point (if we were to define this *point* at all - the text\'s message may be blurred on purpose).

agree writeaway : also considered pet, but is open to being funny, due to double meaning ...

agree TonyTK : Design anarchy? Style anarchy? Interior anarchy? Anarchic alternatives? Nothing seems to fit very well - although "Lieblings-Anarchie" is certainly strange.

You've still put it mildly - "strange" wouldn't really be the appropriate word to describe this up-in-the-clouds design speak.
