EU treaties and legislation or EU regulations; or "acquis communautaires" with explanation
Hi, Lori!
This term came up in an EU text I translated a few years ago, and this is the translation suggested by someone who specialized in EU documents.
But I also had a lot of hits for "acquis communautaires" in English. Many of them had explanations in English, like the following:
"The programme of the “enlargement” of the European Union is based on
a set of rules and regulations or so called “acquis communautaires". URL:
www.ssn.msh-paris.fr/fr/paperruegg.html

: EuroDicautom gives a preference for "community patrimony" when it is not a legal document. Just as horrible but there you go!

Acquis communautaire
"The body of common rights and duties which are binding on all EU Member States, principally the Treaty of Rome, the Treaty on European Union, etc. and related secondary legislation" (Langenscheidt Dictionary of Economic and Monetary Union)

"Treaties & Legislation" is not "Rights & duties"
There is a *major* difference between EU legislation and the rights and duties this bestows/confers on Member States. Please check!
