French term

coroscanner

French to English Medical Medical: Cardiology Patient report
Hi,

The patient underwent a "coronarographie avec coroscanner"

coronarographie = cardiac catheterization
coroscanner = coronary CT angiography. Is this correct?

Thanks for your help.

Finally got this:
http://www.em-consulte.com/en/article/229695

Purpose. To determine the accuracy of 64 MDCT coronary CTA (CCTA) compared to coronary angiography in low risk patients with stable angina and acute coronary syndrome and determine the number of significant coronary artery stenoses (50%) in these patients.

I am unable to open your file defining "coroscanner". This is not a coronary angiography. See:

http://www.doctissimo.fr/sante/imagerie-medicale/coroscanner...

During cardiac catheterization, a catheter is inserted into an artery or vein. It is used to make diagnostic test, such as angioscan (or angiogram).

Thanks everyone! When I first started translating medical texts a physician who was proofing my text said that a coronarographie was a "cardiac catheterization" so am a bit confused by the difference between a coronary angiography and a cardiac catheterization.... Can anyone explain?

I finally found this description of a coroscanner (http://www.coroscanner.info/): it seems it's a 64-slice CT scanner.

as to the English equivalent: I found coroscanner in English texts probably translated from French articles and, in addition, device for coronary CT scanning.

Here is an actual definition in French, but I am unable to find the English equivalent of "coroscanner"

oooh, this came up in a translation I did the other day and I just put "heart scan" for coroscanner. Rightly or wrongly, 'cos when I researched it I got somewhat confused 'cos I understood from my reading that it was the same as a Coronary Angiography!

Any enlightenment from elsewhere will be much appreciated. This is all I have time for.

Definition
Coronary angiography is a procedure that uses a special dye (contrast material) and x-rays to see how blood flows through the arteries in your heart.
Cardiac catheterization is the insertion of a catheter into a chamber or vessel of the heart. It can be used as a way to diagnose heart conditions, or as treatment. Cardiac Cath Lab Nurses assist doctors performing these procedures. As a Cardiac Cath Lab Nurse, you can specialize even further in coronary catherization—procedures that involve coronary arteries, and take place in state of the art labs. In this specialty, you’ll have the opportunity to work with the latest technology in cardiac care.
