Italian term

Peso ponderale

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Construction / Civil Engineering Ritrovamento amianto all\'interno di alcuni manufatti
Dal punto di vista del peso ponderale, la presenza di amianto all’interno dei materiali da demolizione è assolutamente trascurabile.

Peso = Weight
Ponderale = Weight (?)

weight weight ? It sounds rather odd to me. Any suggestion? Thank you!

Discussion

weight concentration (of asbestos) ?
Heidi Newby-Rose Dec 11, 2016:
In the light of the above, and also having found peso ponderale to be translated into "its weight and size" I'd say "taking into account its weight and dimensions, the presence of asbestos..." would be a reasonable translation
Wendy Streitparth Dec 10, 2016:
When referring to body mass and the like, the term "ponderal weight" is frequently used. Maybe it would also be acceptable here.
The ponderal (weight) ratios of the first cycloalkane component to the second cycloalkane component are generally in the range of from 95 : 5

To Marco: you are right. I found a lot of entries about "PI Ponderal Index", always referred to weight and lenght and how to calculate it for both newborns and adults :) For asbestos, I found just one explanation: frazione PONDERALE di amianto/densità relativa (essendo la frazione ponderale di amianto la percentuale in peso di amianto/100). So, I think your guess may be corect: it refers to the relative density.
Marco Solinas Dec 10, 2016:
To: Simona As I am sure you have found, the expression "peso ponderale" is used mostly to designate the ratio between weight and length in newborns. I have not found many references in a technical context and none of these references provide a clue to the meaning in your context. One could guess that the authors are referring to density or specific weight or to the ratio of weight to some other quantity such as volume (density in this case) or surface area, or unit length. However, this ould be simply a guess.
