Russian term

режущей глаз

Russian to English Other Philosophy
An academic article concerning an attempted reconciliation between Spinozism and Hegelianism.

NN не замечает режущей глаз неадекватности гегелевского портрета Спинозы...

I have "...does not notice the sharp eyes of inadequacy of the Hegelian portrait of Spinoza" but I do *not* like it at all.

Unfortunately, your translation is inaccurate. Резать глаз means something else:

Note from asker:
I had suspected my translation was inaccurate, and now I see the mistake I made - linking режущей to глаз instead of неадекватости. (Or, rather, not seeing режущей глаз as a complete adjectival phrase.) Thanks for the perspective.

agree The Misha : I thought of screaming first, but that's the same thing. I tend to be overly dramatic sometimes, heh-heh.

agree Rachel Douglas : For this academic footnote, some other suggestions: "takes no notice of"; "Hegel's" rather than "the Hegelian," and perhaps "depiction" instead of "portrait."
