Discussion

José Patrício Mar 1, 2016:
without changing/still doing the same thing - lomismo es la enfermedad del lomo. Y quien tiene esta enfermedad nunca se libra dela. Siempre lo mismo.
Charles Davis Feb 29, 2016:
This is about as difficult to translate as poetry can be. Clayton Eshleman, translator of the published version, is a professor of English and a distinguished poet himself. He discovered Vallejo's work in 1957 and spent over twenty years working on his versions. He won the National Book Award for one of his volumes.
Paul García Feb 29, 2016:
Right; you have to be a poet to translate poetry. Ain't about the money, but the challenge.
Pensaba yo que "lomismo" fue el dedazo de "lo mismo"...

Thanks for all the comments Yes, I googled it and saw some of the comments that others have contributed, but it's all very confusing. Plus I'm only getting a pittance for doing this job. I should have known better than to agree to translate poetry on a shoestring budget. It takes time. A lot of things to think about. Some call in trans-creation rather than trans-lation. That's about right, I think.

Have you tried Googling this, Gintautas? The poem, and the meaning (if any) of this word are discussed widely online.
José Patrício Feb 29, 2016:

without changing/still doing the same thing
