German to English translations [PRO]
Tech/Engineering - Mechanics / Mech Engineering / Positioning Systems
German term or phrase: Blockfahrt
"Bei zu großem Schleppfehler wird dabei durch hochwertige Positioniersysteme selbst situativ unterschieden, ob es sich um eine „Blockfahrt“ handelt und gebremst werden soll oder ob aufgrund einer detektierten Verschmutzung und Schwerläufigkeit eine Beschleunigung der Positionierbewegung erfolgen muss, um die Verschmutzung zu überwinden."

From a text about positioning systems. I have no idea whatsoever what "Blockfahrt" means (unless it's block movement?) and can't find a credible translation for it anywhere. TIA for any light you can shed on this obscure word.

block drive

Explanation:
Mit Blockfahrt ist eine Bewegung gemeint, deren Endstellung duch eine "Blockierung" definiert wird. Meiner Meinung nach, wird im Englischen der Begriff "block drive" dafür verwendet.

Example sentence(s):
  • Velocity curve 14 runs against the projection 15 of the excavated pawl 2. Through this block drive the electric motor 9 is turned off, because the associated current rise to the switch-off of the electric motor 9 can evaluate off.

Reference information:
I am pretty sure that "Blockfahrt" here refers to an undesirable movement which finally hits some hard stop...would make sense in this context, since the system would decide to stop it.
In German you would call it "auf Block fahren", please see the following proz entry:

In my company (coldforming), we use "to go solid" or "to drive solid" for situations where the tooling hits the block...as I said, this is an undesirable movement which can lead to a machine crash.
