Discussion

Richard Stephen Oct 8, 2015:
Just for general reference I agree with philgoddard that the first form David proposed is preferable in most cases. I use the second form when the first becomes so long, that it is no longer easy to understand. 'Pencil ignition coil sleeves' is getting close to the limit, but shortened to 'Pencil coil sleeves' it is quite comprehensible.
David Williams (asker) Oct 8, 2015:
Thanks Much appreciated!
Richard Stephen Oct 8, 2015:
Perhaps just pencil coil sleeve(s) analog to Beru's term 'pencil coil' - ignition probably being understood from the context.
philgoddard Oct 8, 2015:
The former is more concise.
David Williams (asker) Oct 8, 2015:
Thank you, Richard How would you deal with the Hülsen?
"pencil ignition coil sleeves" or "sleeves for the pencil ignition coils"?

pencil (-type) ignition coil

Had to do a little research on this one. My first thought was some kind of 'glow plug', but this a new type of ignition coil for gasoline engines, evidently developed by Porsche

agree philgoddard : Or ignition module.

Thanx for the agree. I suppose you could also use 'module', but Beru/Borgwarner calls it a 'pencil coil'

pencil-type ignition module

In the reference "Stabzündmodul" is called "pencil-type ignition module" (click on the "look inside" link) but that is for a Porsche V8 petrol engine. As far as I know, diesel engines don't have anything that could be called "ignition module" because the ignition results from compression, not a spark.
