Of course I know it's some kind of brick. But what exactly is "rafón"? (It is a document about providing energy-saving stoves to people living in rural areas of Honduras...using less firewood, holding more heat in, etc.).

In other words, it means what we would normally just call "brick". In Honduras, where this term is used, the term applies to standard bricks for general construction purposes, with the proviso that they're made of fired clay, as opposed to adobe bricks, which are simply dried in the sun. It's also distinguished from "teja", which is of course for roofs.
Here's the most useful source I've found:
"Es entonces [siglo XIX] cuando el uso del ladrillo "rafón" aparece como sustituto del adobe. Este último, por no ser cocido, sufre deterioro con mayor facilidad al estar expuesto a la intemperie.

Here's an article headed "ladrillo rafón" which is about bricks in general. That's what they are: standard fired clay (not adobe) bricks for general construction purposes.

That would make sense, but there's no evidence that "rafón" can mean specifically that, and all the evidence there is shows that it simply means what I've said: arcilla/barro cocido. Plenty of stoves in Honduras are built of adobe, in fact.
