Module: scenic design Explanation: Or scenography, stage design, set design or production design. This term differs depending on which side of the Atlantic you're on. The definition you've found appears to be the European one, and I assume you're writing for a North American readership. Either way, the translation will be the same - it's just that their responsibilities are different. "Scenic design (also known as scenography, stage design, set design or production design) is the creation of theatrical, as well as film or television scenery... "In Europe and Australia, scenic designers take a more holistic approach to theatrical design and will often be responsible not only for scenic design but costume, lighting and sound and are referred to as theatre designers or scenographers or production designers." It includes constructing and rigging scenery, hanging and focusing of lighting, design and procurement of costumes, makeup, procurement of props, stage management, and recording and mixing of sound. Stagecraft is distinct from the wider umbrella term of scenography. Considered a technical rather than an artistic field, it is primarily the practical implementation of a designer's artistic vision. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stagecraft |
