Discussion

nweatherdon Oct 30, 2014:
OK, I don't have anything more to say about it. Thanks for your input.
Ward Whittaker Oct 30, 2014:
Dear njweatherdon Nobody is "telling" you what to do. I merely pointed out that the graceful option would be to remove a duplicate answer. I have done it many times myself under the same circumstances out of respect for the first answerer. And no, the different references make no difference at all if the answer is correct and both references are valid.
nweatherdon Oct 30, 2014:
I don't intend to be told be someone that I must take my answer down. There is different content and it may be useful for the asker. Note that I agreed with your answer immediately after the first message you sent. I would normally expect the asker to give the points to the first answerer but do not appreciate that you intervened to ask me to take it down.
Ward Whittaker Oct 30, 2014:
As I also said Muriel Proz should have a mechanism in place that solves this issue by not allowing Duplicate answers as they do not help anyone. Yes, we do it to help others, but nobody likes wasting their own time for nothing either.
Muriel Vasconcellos Oct 30, 2014:
Helping the Asker Let's not forget that our aim is to provide the asker with the *most helpful* answer. Even if duplicates turn up because one of the answerers is still preparing his post, in the end the asker has the right to choose the one she finds most helpful.

leptic

http://www.isric.org/ includes this in its soil classifications in at least one study if you use their search function.

From http://ticri.inpl-nancy.fr/urban_soils.en/index.php/Leptic_(...
Endoleptic (nl): having continuous rock starting between 50 and 100 cm from the soil surface.
Epileptic (el): having continuous rock starting within 50 cm of the soil surface.

Presumably "leptic" includes both of the above. It is found in many other documents as an established classification for describing a soil analysis.

Peer comment(s):

agree nweatherdon : The term is correct. It may have different categorizations for specifically how deep (this is common in classifications stuff)
