However, it still reads rather oddly, and other interpretations may be possible. I have to say I'm not entirely sure what they are getting at — obviously if a pulley is not at right-angles to the running direction, the belt is very likely to come off sooner rather than later! I wonder if they are actually trying to say "If cylindrical pulleys are not at right angles, as they are not self-tracking, they will have a variable run-off tendency and will have to be reset (to make them at 90°)" — but that's quite a lot of rewriting! So perhaps it's just me who am not following...
