Yes, "receptive to assimilating new information" is a translation of „imlus žinioms“. Sure, "žinios" can be "knowledge", but the context implies we are talking about learning, i.e. "new information", not just existing knowledge. I know we can't take too many liberties in translating a text, but the fact is that a native English speaker would be more likely to talk about the person in question being a "fast learner".
