: You've convinced me; I can see why the idea of a third party might be better rendered in FR by using the 'third' bit, while the 'party' bit is used in the EN. Congratulations on your knowledge and research!

It appears to be a specific database management term, without "third". Example: 'Provided-by' is meaningful in particular cases when the creator of a location object wants to designate a particular system or party within a complex administration.
