I would advise to translate the whole sentence like this: "As legal grounds, the provisions of art. (...) were invoked" because every Court decision is based on 2 major grounds: the facts and the legal. In Romanian - in drept refers to the legal grounds but the exact translation "in law" is not really accurate.
