Discussion

transphy Mar 6, 2013:
If we were talking about Judges/Magistrates in the Courts of Athens, London, N.York and other big cities, I might even be tempted, for clarity, to say, 'The other # of Judges/ the remainder of the # Judges, the remaining # Judges and even name them. Judges don't come in big numbers and, in such a case as we have here, I suspect you can count them on some of the fingers of one hand. Also well known to Mr. Tsirimpa. Most important here is THE CORRECT MEANING OF THE TEXT. (CAPITALS FOR EMPHASIS).
One is talking of a particular case of a particular group of people.

I am under the impression that "the other" is a little bit vague. It makes me want to ask "the other who?". While "the rest of" means the rest of a certain group of Judges; those who should have attended the procedure and they did not.
transphy Mar 6, 2013:
the other-the rest of-the remaining-I consider them to be synonymous, to all respects and purposes, here.
Eleni Bouchli Mar 6, 2013:
I think one could say "the rest of the regular Judges" in order to translate also "των λοιπών".

@Asker
Unless aother colleague comes forward to say I am wrong in my observation, I sugest you go back to your Source and clarify the context. I, myself see this very unclear i.e. that it COULD have 2 quite different meanings.

Perfect! But I don't want to provide a second answer. Mine was just a tentative suggestion (and, I admit, Ι entirely missed «λοιπών»).
