IMO the original sentence is not very precise. It's not the chloride ions themselves which are brought into this "weakly dissociated, colloidal form/state", but AgCl which is formed in their reaction with AgNO3. So I'd say the following, or something along this line:
"Chloride ions react with the silver nitrate solution to yield silver chloride, which is in a weakly dissociated, colloidal form."
"Chloride ions react with the silver nitrate solution to yield silver chloride, which is in a weakly dissociated, colloidal form."
