Spanish term

IMS (Sailing Abbreviation)

Spanish to English Other
I know I promised no more sailing queries.... But I had a last minute entry in my sailing translation :-) So, some more chances for Kudoz points for all you sailors out there.

The context here is that the participants in a regatta are described, in Spanish, as "the elite of the IMS" Later a vessel called "The Zurich" is referred to as the IMS Zurich.

Can anyonone throw any light on this abbreviation?

SEE THIS REFRENCE :

In November 1985 the Offshore Racing Council adopted the System as a second international
rule to stand alongside the International Offshore Rule (IOR) and to provide time allowances for
cruiser/racer type yachts not effectively rated by the IOR. To accord with its international status
the system was renamed the International Measurement System (IMS).

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for the detailed explanation. The other answer looked tempting... but the detail here made it clear that this was what the writer of the SLT was referring to."
