The US equivalent is clinical associate professor, which requires a substantial amount of publications or similar works. The clinical prefix in the US means part-time; however in the UK, Clinical Senior Lecturer it's a "tenured" position. In Austria it's not tenured.

: lecturer is inappropriate, at least in the eyes of a "Dozent" :)//even with the addition of 'Senior', or 'University' lecturer, if you will, they'll be furious...

: It misses the point that he or she is a F.A. and hence would be appointed as a Clinical Associate Professor in the US. Best to read through the posting above and follow the links.

I am an MD, and I work with Dozente/Privatdozente all the time; I formulate my answers on the basis of my knoweldge/personal experience rather than 'feelings', though my female intuition helps, too :)
