French term

arrière de vitrine

French to English Other Construction / Civil Engineering
I'm working on some specifications applicable to tenants of retail outlets in a shopping centre. The specifications detail all of the requirements imposed on tenants when fitting out their shops, installing false ceilings, etc. Any suggestions would be much appreciated as I can't figure out whether they're talking about the windows themselves, window displays or something else. Thanks very much for taking the time to look at this! I have posted the question in the field of construction but am afraid that I'm unsure as to whether it should come under 'marketing'.

They talk about ceilings and light fittings, so perhaps more than just the window display area.

To Philgoddard From the context given,I'd say it is the shop window in all probability
philgoddard Apr 24, 2012:
It's not clear whether vitrine means window or display case. I'm afraid I'm not convinced by any of the answers - no one has cited any French references.

Sounds like the back (vertical) part of the window display from the context, but I don't know whether there is a proper term for it, I'm afraid.

Shop window fittings

This phrase clearly shows that we are talking about the fittings associated with a window display as described in the text.

internal fittings

Far from a word to word translation but I think this is what they mean. The windows, doors etc are in place but all internal fittings - ceilings, lighting etc are to be provided by the shopowner.

display back

the background of a display window or the back of a display case

neutral Bashiqa : Very high confidence level for something less than obvious.
