Quando il conducente frena, il Distributore Duplex invia aria allo stantuffo pneumatico, il quale, a sua volta, tramite il puntale, mette in movimento la pompa idraulica. L’olio sotto pressione agisce sui pistoncini che, aprono le ganasce, determinando la frenatura. Il corpo che contiene stantuffo e pompa è chiamato anche ***CONVERTITORE pneumo idraulico***, in quanto converte la pressione da pneumatica in idraulica. Ne consegue che l’aria compressa in arrivo dal Distributore Duplex agisce da servofreno sulla pompa idraulica. L’impianto è dotato di due convertitori, uno serve l’asse anteriore, l’altro l’asse posteriore. In questo modo frenatura di soccorso e di servizio sono conglobate. La frenatura di stazionamento è attuata da un freno a molla, ne consegue che il freno di stazionamento non fa corpo unico con il freno di servizio.
