I have come across this terms in relation to a fee paid to a school. Logically it should mean a fee paid so that a child can stay overnight at the school but the amount concerned (€2/day) seems too little for this to be right. It occurs to me that it could also mean a fee for children to stay on at school after lessons have finished (e.g. if parents are working). Can anybody shed any light on this for me.
Many thanks

money for staying over during lunchtime/detention
when I was a child all kids went home for lunch, if that was not possible, 'bleef je over', bringing your own sandwiches as Dutch schools do not cook food on the premises, may be it is a fee for caring for the kids.
Overblijven can also mean detention after school for bad behaviour.

: This is a description rather than a translattion. Staying after school is 'nablijven'.

Comment: "This answer made the meaning of this term clear to me. I eventually went on to translate the term as "lunchtime supervision fee" on the basis of this answer. This was later suggested by another user, but I had already indicated it as my solution on this site."

lunch money
We just call it lunch money (US). Overblijven = staying at school during lunch time.

lunch hour fee
I found confirmation on UK, Canadian, and American websites - see below. A lunch hour fee is paid to the school. Lunch money is what the children are given by parents to buy food or treats, e.g. if a regular lunch hour program does not exist.

If by overblijven they mean to stay after school, it would be called an "after school fee".

Lunchtime supervision costs
Its the fee charged by the school in to cover the cost employing of non teaching support staff to supervise the children over the lunch break.

: The costs is what the school has, the fee is what the parents pay.
