intraoperative examination (IE)
Here are an example:
"...with primary breast cancer who underwent sentinel lymph node biopsy, an intraoperative examination (IE) was obtained in..."
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15525830
I don't think the abbreviation "IE" is very common. It may be best to use the full term.

intraoperative frozen section biopsy
I agree with the previous posts, but this could be another possibility .It is an intraoperative examination of a sample (usually taken from a lesion that is suspected to be malignant) that is processed (frozen and dyed) and later seen by a pathologist while the patient is still undergoing a surgery. In fact, the result of the surgery sometimes depends on the pathologist´s report!
We also call it "biopsia extemporánea" in Spanish.

perioperative study
Intraoperative works as well. I'd stay away from anything more specific as the text in question does not indicate they testing method used.
