Mais contexto Recently, I received a call from a prestigious, national magazine: follow and photograph a jazz musician for several days.
Dream assignment.
Only caveat, he was a nine-year-old prodigy AND autistic.
That meant if he wasn’t interested in what was going on, his attention span was nonexistent.
I surmised that it would be difficult to set up lights and have him pose or repeat movements.
The magazine has a very specific look and we needed a great deal of ingenuity to maintain that look.
I was stymied as to how to accomplish my very deliberate lighting methods without alienating the boy.
Speedlights to the rescue.
I jerryrigged a small, cheap 12” x 12” softbox to one Speedlight and connected it to the camera with a 15-foot TTL cord.
My able assistant was saddled with chasing the budding genius throughout our sessions inside, outside, during rehearsals, etc., as He “ bounced offthe walls” with his relentless hyperactivity.
