water features

French translation: aménagements aquatiques

English to French translations [PRO]
Architecture / description of a house and it's surroundings
English term or phrase: water features
In a document describing a couple's home in detail in order to determine if it will be suitable for them to have adopted children living there:

"A unique feature of the home is that there is a separate area attached to the side of the house which can be used as an office. Their backyard is large and half fenced. There are no water features in the yard."

From experience with these documents, I believe they are referring to the fact that there is no swimming pool or sprinkler system, and there are no swampy areas or "water-related" things that could possibly make the area unsafe for children playing back there.

plan d'eau

Explanation:
Dans ce contexte, le terme assez général "plan d'eau" me semble bien convenir.

neutral  Tony M: Once again, too specific; since there aren't any of these things, it really does need to be kept as general as the s/t. / Could you call a fish-pond ('bassin' ?) a 'jeu d'eau'?

-> 'Fontaines' is specific but 'jeux d'eaux' is not, in my opinion. // Not really, hehe.

water feature
installation d'ornement à eau

Explanation:
I really don't know if one can express it this way in FR, but I believe this at least conveys the right idea, perhaps someone could correct the wording for me.

A 'water feature' is usually something specifically decorative rather than functional — I suppose a swimming pool could loosely be included (though I feel sure that would probably have been mentioned separately, and is in any case subject to specific safety regulations).

So this wouldn't include garden hoses or sprinklers, for example — but it would include fish-ponds, waterfalls, ornamental wells, fountains, bird-baths, etc. etc.

To keep the translation as general and all-embracing as the s/t, I think that something like 'installation' is necessary here.

neutral  meaulnes (X): I think the wordings used by professionals are "aménagements paysagers" for anything aiming at making a garden beautiful and "aménagements aquatiques" for "water features" specifically. The word "aménagement" being very general.
